This is what Barbara said after her stay in the Arch Room:
I had the pleasure of staying with Kathy and Michael for two days and it was hospitality at its best. If you are looking for warmth and charm from your Hosts then its Kathy and Michael. If you’re looking for cleanliness and comfort then its Hilltop. This is five star rating from the moment that you arrive until you leave.
Ken said after staying in the Sewing Machine Room:
Of the 15+ AirBNB’s in which my wife and I have stayed, Hilltop House would definitely be the gold or silver medalist. The night and morning with Kathy and Michael was very pleasant and they epitomized hospitality. The sewing machine room and their home was just like the photos—charming, spotless, and peaceful. Kathy went out of her way to make the weekday breakfast nice, preparing multiple types of fresh fruit to accompany the cold & instant cereals. Their house is in a forested neighborhood, just 15min drive from Gettysburg Battlefield, and Kathy welcomed me in despite my last-minute route through Frederick and Adams Counties. My only regret is that I didn’t have time to explore the waterfalls in nearby Catoctin Mountain Park, where the President’s Camp David is located. Would recommend Hilltop House to my close family and I’d certainly return!
Elaine said this after staying in the Sewing Machine Room:
Kathy and Michael McCabe have a beautiful BnB, Hilltop House. The bedroom I stayed in was The Sewing Room. They are great hosts providing a comfy, homey, peaceful and beautiful place. I highly recommend their gracious hospitality, great food and wonderful conversation along with laughter. I was blessed to find them and hope to see them again.
Elsie’s Review after staying in the Sewing Machine Room:
Kathy extended a warm welcome. Her home and my sewing room accommodations more than met my expectations and Kathy and Michael’s home is located in a beautiful, peaceful area with lots of historic areas in Gettysburg close by. The private bath was located right next to my room and the room had lots of windows, light and super comfortable bed. Kathy made a marvelous breakfast prior to leaving to attend my conference – a great start to my day. We had a lot of similar business interest and it was rewarding to share time with her. Kathy was a gracious host in every respect and I would certainly book reservations there again for the next conference in her area. Elsie Kerns
What Elsie loved about your listing:
Everything! The accommodations were excellent and Kathy and Michael’s warm welcome and openness to being part of their home was relaxing and enjoyable. Kathy’s cooking skills were so wonderful and helped to start each day full and ready for the conference. What I loved most was the way Kathy provided all the info needed prior to arriving, her contact info if we needed it to find her location, the openness of her hospitality and great suggestions during my stay. It was an excellent experience for our first stay at an AirBnB and I was her first customer – so glad I found her, her home and welcome invitation via Air BnB! Elsie Kerns
What Elsie thought you could improve about the experience:
I would definitely give Kathy a 5 Star rating … I can’t think of anything she needs to do differently. It was as though she done this many times and knew exactly how to be helpful, there if needed and not over impose. I felt part of her home and this was ideal for relaxation following each conference day. Elsie Kerns
I am so excited to be trying something I’ve always wanted to try! One of my dreams as a kid was to own/operate an exclusive hotel that was elegantly rustic but state of the art, surrounded by georgeous landscape and interesting attractions….
Well Hello!! Hilltop House Bed and Breakfast may not be an exclusive hotel but it is a very nice – small – bed and breakfast. We offer a full breakfast on the weekends and a serve it yourself breakfast bar for the weekdays. We’ve asked a few of our guests to enjoy dinner with us if they wanted to.
We have had several people come to stay with us and I’ve learned a few things along the way.
- Set out the breakfast bar before going to bed the night before.
- Set up coffee / tea the night before, and set out cups, spoons, sugar dishes
- Keep the breakfasts simple, I love using ramekins for ease in making portions.
- When a guest checks out, immediately get the room ready for the next guest.
- Since this is a bed and breakfast and the owners (Michael and I) live on site, keep the sheets, towels, washcloths, and linens separate from ours. It might make for more laundry but it will be easier in the long run.
- Put keyless entry locks on the front door and guest bedrooms. Guests feel more secure when they can lock their space, and if you’re gone when they come and go, they can still get in. Change the code once they check out.
- Put locks on your own spaces – such as the office and bedroom – this way we can feel more confident going away for the day.
I have to say that so far I haven’t had a single guest I would have had to worry about since they all treated my house with complete respect. I think inheritantly, most people would anyway.
We are learning tons and I’m enjoying the innkeeper experience immensely!
